The first is the West African Invitation Softball Tournament in Dakar, Senegal. WAIST is the biggest event for all of the volunteers here, nearly everyone goes and we look forward to it more than christmas. We also always cause the most rukus and generally always win. The second is from a celebration held in a town near mine for the new village chief. Technically it is two towns, one in Mauritania and the other across the river in Senegal, but that is just because when the colonists came they ignored the fact that the river was mainstreet and not a dividing line. http://picasaweb.google.com/z.swank/Fonde#

Yeah, terjit is exactly where you are going. Sorry for the spoiler ;)
About the uniform, I assume you mean the shorts. They are the traditional Moor "pants" that are worn underneath the big Boubou (the sheet like poncho thing.) They are not meant to be worn alone with a tshirt as they expose the legs, which is culturally inappropriate but they are incredibly comfortable and help with fielding softballs.
